COURSE OVERVIEW


The ICS 200 Awareness course is designed for frontline supervisors and initial responders who may be the first at the site and need to efficiently set up command and kick-start elements of ICS. The course is also suitable for staff that might assume roles within larger organizations.

Through the ICS 200 Awareness course, learners are introduced to the application of the Incident Command System (ICS) in managing single resources and the requisite management for initial action incidents, thereby laying a solid foundation for higher-level ICS training.

This course expands on the I-100 course, providing an in-depth exploration of the features, principles, and organizational structure of the Incident Command System. On completion of the ICS 200 Awareness course, learners will be equipped to function effectively as an initial Incident Commander.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will have acquired basic knowledge of managing single resources and establishing command using the Incident Command System. The course is targeted at individuals who may be the first on the scene of an incident and possibly assigned to a supervisory position in a larger incident and ICS organization. The prerequisite for the ICS 200 Awareness course is the successful completion of I-100.

Please note: this course is designed as an awareness level course. The goal of the ICS 200 Awareness course is to enhance mutual understanding and critical knowledge about ICS.

The ICS 200 Awareness Online course covers the following topics:

    Unit 1: Course Overview

    • Provides a summary of Course Material to be covered.

    Unit 2: Leadership and Management

    • Explains the chain of command within the Incident Command System, formal and informal communications, leadership, and the delegation of authority.

    Unit 3: Management by Objectives

    • Details the process of setting incident objectives and their correlation to the establishment of the Incident Command System organization.

    Unit 4: Organizational Flexibility

    • Discusses flexibility within the standard ICS organizational structure and demonstrates how the Incident Command System organization embodies the principles of management by objectives.

    Unit 5: Positions and Functional Areas

    • Expands on information covered in the I-100 course.

    Unit 6: Briefings

    • Elaborates the different types of briefings and meetings used in the Incident Management System.

    Unit 7: Transfer of Command

    • Clarifies the procedure used when transferring command.

    Unit 8: Course Summary

    • Recaps material covered in Units 1 through 7.

PASS MARK


The online ICS 200 course includes tests designed to reinforce the information presented. A score of 80% must be achieved to earn a certificate of completion. Participants are allowed to retake the course twice if the pass mark is not achieved.


CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION


Upon successful completion of the ICS 200 Awareness online course, a certificate of completion will be made available for download and printing.
